GP jobs in Canberra
Due to the restrictions imposed on overseas trained doctors, this is the only major city in Australia where you can work centrally.
The region is experiencing a GP shortage; more than 82 extra doctors are needed to bring the region in line with the national average.
To enhance your skills and career aspirations, Canberra offers vast opportunities to combine clinical roles with other roles in policy, academia, research, teaching at the ANU Medical School.
The number of hours spent each week in clinical practice varies a great deal due to the many non-clinical opportunities for GPs in Canberra. However, the majority of full-time GPs tend to work around 40 hours per week. There are approximately 384 GPs in Canberra, and the number of part time GPs is approximately 149.
Canberra is an ideal place for flexible career choices in regard to family and lifestyle arrangements. The Institute of Sport, the Conservatorium of Music, and Canberra School of Art provide many opportunities for children with varying requirements both academic and social.

Canberra is planned around a series of town centres - Woden, Tuggeranong, Belconnen and Gungahlin which each has its own group of satellite suburbs with a major shopping centre, schools and community facilities.
The town centres of Tuggeranong, Belconnen and Gungahlin, as well as Weston Creek, are all eligible for District of Workforce Shortage status (DWS), allowing appropriately qualified overseas trained doctors to gain a Medicare Provider Number to work in these areas.
