The Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) is the body, which makes an assessment of overseas trained specialists to determine the applicant’s comparability to Australian trained emergency medicine specialists.
If you hold a post graduate qualification in Emergency Medicine, particularly from the UK, the US ABEM or Canada CCEM, you will be well regarded in the Australian market and have a relatively high chance of meeting the requirements as a substantially comparable specialist.
Where an IMG does not hold one of the qualifications above, the IMG may be either required to undertake 12 months supervised practice, fellowship examinations or the IMG may be found not comparable.
